LAST WEEKEND AT CAMPIT – Haunted Weekend
___________________________________________________________
We got a real treat on Haunted Weekend at Campit - mid-summer weather in October! The warm temperatures and sunny skies allowed many members to put in a lot of extra time and effort decorating their sites for Haunted Weekend. Friday evening was our final meet and greet hotdog social of the season. It was well attended with great conversation and lots of laughs.
Saturday evening, the scares started with our “private” haunted trail which included a dead campers grave yard, massive spiders, mad camper cannibals that chased us around. Escaping the cannibals, we found ourselves at the ghostly entrance to a corn field where the scare crows did more than just keep the birds away! Running for your life was not much help as a mad, escaped gorilla with a hunger for blood came out of the woods. Clowns were everywhere, but no one expected a gun toting clown to be under the bridge, ready to attack. And just when we thought we had gotten safely through the woods, out of nowhere a Grumpy Tractor with a huge anger streak started up and chased you into a chain saw yielding madman with a thirst for more than cutting wood!
With hearts still pounding, we topped off the evening with the Dracula Ball at the Westwood Clubhouse. The costumes were incredible and the music was amazing. Our costume contest was huge competition and the winners had to be truly inventive. The “Popping Out Pope” one first place, “The Pantyless Dorothy” took second and “Adam with the Forbidden Fruits” took third.
After the dance, at the witching hour of midnight, we met at the pool entrance for nominations and voting on the best site decorations. The creative boys from the New Horseshoe, with their truly incredible “Carnevil” took first place. It was the talk of the campground all weekend as they converted the tenting area into a big top, with breath-taking light, sounds, and effects. There were even some eerie, non-talking clowns roaming the area. Second place went to a cabin pirate graveyard, visually stunning and creative.
This was a Haunted Weekend that truly scared the pants off our members!
